Silk River

Get involved!  Help us create an exciting walk through our town. As part of a year-long programme marking the 70th anniversary of Indian independence Gravesend is taking part in the Silk River project.
The project involves 10 locations in the UK – each create their own walk through their riverside
town, showcasing the communities living on the Thames, telling stories and sharing history of the
area.

Each walk will be open to keen walkers, residents, community groups, schools and visitors.
As well as developing the walk, each town will create their own silk banner with a series of
images to tell their own story. Gravesend’s walk is on Thursday 21 September 2017

There are many opportunities to get involved with the project:

• Volunteer as a steward on the day
• Share your story or memory of living on the Thames
• Write a poem
• Undertake a performance on the day
• Create images for the banner
• Take part in the artist workshop
• Create an exhibition from silk
• Photograph the event
• Host refreshments on the day
• Help with logistical planning of the route
