There are a number of Gravesend projects that have taken place since the development of the Gravesend Town Centre Management’s “Team G”. These initiatives have helped to ensure that the town remains clean, safe and an attractive place in which to live, visit, work, play, do business and invest in:

  • Access: It is essential that the Town Centre remains a safe environment at all times. Therefore the Town Centre gates are locked between 10am and 6pm for all traffic except buses. Access between these times is reviewed on a case by case basis by Town Centre Management.
  • Business engagement: Working with Town Centre businesses is essential for us and we are continually developing new platforms to ensure this takes place. Some of these include monthly campaigns, social media (Twitter and Facebook), business briefings, quarterly newsletter etc.
  • Clean up days: Members of the Council and the general public are invited on a regular basis to participate in a Volunteer Clear Up day, which focus on a different part of the town. The purpose is to clear any unwanted waste and weeds.
  • Events: The number of events taking place throughout the Town Centre is increasing year after year including Gravesham In Bloom, Pancake Race, St Georges Day Parade, Christmas advent etc. These events provide a great opportunity for both businesses and visitors to work together in helping to raise awareness of the Town Centre.
  • Graffiti: In an attempt to tackle the rise in Graffiti throughout the town over the past few years, we have worked with a local street artist who has decorated key parts of the town with vibrant art displays.
  • Litter: New “BigBelly” bins are being installed throughout the Town Centre to replace the existing bins. Completely self-powered, BigBelly uses solar power for 100% of its energy needs and because of its compaction capability it can hold six to eight times more waste than the average street bin.
  • Recycling: The Town Centre take recycling very seriously and have implemented a number of measures to manage this.
  • Safety: G SAFE is a Business Crime Reduction Partnership working closely with the retail community of Gravesham, Gravesham Borough Council and Kent Police to deal with issues of crime and disorder within the borough. The aim is to maintain a safe, economically vibrant Borough, creating a pleasant place to visit and work.
  • Street fundraising: In order to limit the number of fundraisers within the Town Centre, there are now guidelines in place for anyone looking to fundraise within the Town Centre. These guidelines aim to protect both Town Centre visitors and the fundraisers themselves.
  • Street litter: In order to tackle chewing gum and cigarette butts littering the streets, we have enlisted the help of Environmental Enforcement Officers who are responsible for managing and addressing these issues.
