Cobham Wood Tree Trail

5 May at 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Take a walk on the Kent North Downs from Cobham village to the Darnley Mausoleum and you will find yourself walking through the beautiful area of historic woodland pasture in Cobham Woods. This woodland formed part of the Earl of Darnley’s estate at nearby Cobham Hall until the late 1950s and features a distinctive selection of ancient and veteran trees, some dating over an impressive 600 years in age.
The National Trust Cobham volunteer team is keen to enable visitors to find out more about the trees. The enthusiastic efforts of volunteers, the Ranger, and funding from the National Trust’s regional Trees & Woodland Development Fund, has led to the creation of a new Tree Trail.
The new trail introduces visitors to some of the most interesting ancient trees of the wood. Beautiful oak marker posts with the tree names have been crafted on site, recycling locally managed timber. The markers form a trail with an accompanying leaflet giving information on the history, restoration and management of this important local natural environment by the National Trust.
Opening officially on Sunday 5 May, visitors are welcome to join the Trust’s volunteers at South Barn for the opening event at 11am. The wood is open and free to explore every day during daylight hours, with tree trail leaflets available at the car park at each end. South Barn and the Mausoleum are both open every 1 and 3 Sunday of the month, April-September, 12-4.30pm.
