Milton Chantry Heritage Centre – Heritage Open Days

16 September at 12:00 pm - 17 September at 5:00 pm

Milton Chantry has had many different uses and is one of a few surviving buildings of this type. It contains a number of well-preserved architectural features from the 14th to 19th centuries along with a variety of displays relating to the heritage of the Borough.

Milton Chantry is the Borough of Gravesham’s oldest building. It’s origins are said to go back to a leper hospital founded on the site in 1189. In 1322 by Aymer de Valence, Earl of Pembroke endowed land on the north side of the Thames in Essex to help maintain the hospital and support two chaplains who would also offer up prayers for him and his family.

Each of it’s rooms tells a different story about it’s past uses and inhabitants.

FREE entry to Milton Chantry Heritage Centre.

Located close to the Thames, New Tavern Fort was designed to defend London against an enemy fleet. Experience life underground and follow in the steps of the Victorian artillery men. Entry to New Tavern Fort for only £1
