Join the crew aboard LV21, a unique 40 metre steel-hulled lightship, the last of the renowned Philip & Son’s ships to be commissioned by Trinity House. Since her launch on 16th September in 1963, LV21 saw most of her service off the Kent coast on the Varne, East Goodwin and Channel stations and now operates as a cultural centre.
Come to celebrate the ship’s 60th anniversary, tour the decks and discover her story, from lightship service in the past guiding the mariners at sea along the Kent coast to the current role as a cultural landmark in Gravesend.
There’s a lot to see and do both aboard and ashore on the quayside!
Explore the rich maritime heritage of the vessel through a private collection of artefacts, films and photos, and delve deeper into nautical histories by flicking through the publications from the onboard library.
Join a number of resident artists to explore and unwrap your creativity. Enjoy live performances and take part in hands-on drop-in activities inspired by nautical themes. Or design and take away your own LV21 60th anniversary souvenir. All materials provided, suitable for all ages.
Drop-in event. Places allocated on first come first served basis. Tour bookings to be made on arrival on the day. Please note that access aboard the ship is restricted during the high tide from 1330-1600. Activities on the quayside run throughout the day.
