Peril at Sea

New Touring Theatre Production Exploring Maritime History and Heritage

“On stormy nights when wild north-westers rave,
How proud a thing to fight with wind and wave!”
– Arthur Hugh Clough

Join us in the intimate setting aboard the historic lightship LV21 for an evocative evening of live theatre.

The greatest storm in living memory blasts the English coast. Striving against the howling winds and pounding waves, a lonely boat struggles on. Those left behind wait impatiently, huddled together, isolated and unfamiliar.

As the storm rages and they wait, stories tumble out of the night – tales, memories, myths, legends and songs – all told by a multitude of characters. Amongst others, audiences will hear from sailors, submariners, smugglers and survivors.

The production is an opportunity to commemorate and celebrate those who have risked and lost their lives to save others, and the communities in which they lived. For the past year, the theatre company have been visiting sites and museums all over the country, gathering material used in the creation of the play: characters, anecdotes, events, songs and images. The stories also come from those who live by the sea, and their memories of life on the coast.
