Even with all their drama, modern day British Elections are tame compared to those that took place in the Victorian era. When it comes to rioting and other disorder at election time, Gravesend was well up in the league of offenders. Indeed, events in the Borough contributed to the changes in electoral practice that have shaped the way votes take place today.
