Gravesham Accredited Guided Tours

Gravesham Borough Council organised for local people to be officially trained to deliver a series of discovery tours in Gravesend on behalf of the council.

The budding tour guides went through a three months training course and successfully passed their written and oral exam. The Gravesham Tourism Guides are now fully accredited to take British and International groups on a journey through time!

The following tours on offer are:

River Walk – From the oldest pub in Gravesend to the town’s canal basin, you will be taking in all aspects of the river – pirates, smuggling, ship building, shrimping, Port of London Authority, missions, fortifications and the river itself.

People and Places – Running from the historic St. George’s church to the beautiful Gordon Gardens, you will hear about the famous people linked to the area – Pocahontas, Dickens and General Gordon to name a few! This walk will also include the history of Gravesend including coaching inns, the listed clock tower, Gravesend Old Borough Market and more.

Politics and Faith – Have an exclusive look at Gravesham Borough Council’s Mayor’s parlour and regalia, touching on politics. Follow up with a walk to the town’s magnificent Sikh Gurdwara where you will be told about Sikhism and other religions. If you wish to do so, you will be able to take your group inside the Gurdwara afterwards.

Each walk is an hour long or so, and the cost of a tour starts at £7 per person and up to £10 per person depending on the walk or visit.
