Gravesham Great Outdoors

With a cluster of country parks, community woodlands, historic parklands and the Cyclopark, Gravesham is strengthening its appeal in providing a range of quality outdoors activities for the enjoyment of visitors. There is so much more to see on foot or by bike in Gravesend and the villages around.

Walk among ancient woodland at Cobham and Ashenbank Woods, alongside the Thames & Medway Canal, follow sections of the long distance Saxon Shore Way, Wealdway or the North Downs Way or discover the Darnley Trail within the historic landscape of Cobham Park. Enjoy the numerous secluded country footpaths that criss-cross the area.

Shorne Woods Country Park makes an ideal day out for all the family with play and picnic areas, a trim trail and orienteering, fishing, waymarked trails and an Easy Access Trail suitable for prams and wheelchairs.

Discover brand new woodlands, ponds, orchards and wildflower meadows at Jeskyns Community Woodland.

Relax in the more formal parks and open spaces within the town. Gordon Gardens and promenade with its riverside views and colourful floral displays and Woodlands Park with its children’s play areas.

Take your bike along the National Cycle Route that weaves its way across town or enjoy the network of bridleways on horseback. Or you might want to try the Cyclopark, Kent’s new centre for first class cycling, running and extreme sports facilities. With a lot of events throughout the year, it is also an ideal venue for families.

Gaze out across the Thames valley from a vantage point at Gravesend’s Windmill Hill or experience the views across the estuarine marshes from Higham and Shorne.

Nestling at the foot of the hill on its northern side is Windmill Gardens where you will find ornamental gardens, a bowling green and tennis courts (to book the tennis courts please contact The Windmill Tavern on 01474 35 22 42)

Gravesham is also very lucky to have two leisure centres , Cygnet and Cascades, offering plenty of indoor activities for the whole family!
