Christmas Lights Switch On – Friday 17 November, 4-7pm
This year the Christmas lights parade will take a slightly different route with all the entertainment culminating at Gravesend Borough Market.
Bands and street performers will entertain shoppers in the town centre in the afternoon and you are invited to then join in the fun as the parade gathers from 4pm on the square outside the Civic Centre.
At 4.30pm the Community Square Christmas tree will be switched on by The Mayor of Gravesham, Councillor Harold Craske.
A lantern parade, organised in partnership with Cohesion Plus, will process through the town. This will feature hundreds of children from local schools along with bands. The parade will be led by a specially commissioned piece of art featuring Jack Frost along with frosted fairy stilt walkers and other performers.
As the parade processes, it will stop at various points for the Christmas lights to be switched on, marking the start of this year’s festive season.
The parade will take a route from Community Square, down Windmill Street, along New Road, through the St George’s Centre, back along New Road and down the High Street to Gravesend Borough Market.
Gathering at the Market Square, there will be further entertainment from the cast of this year’s pantomime at The Woodville – Sleeping Beauty – with panto stars Linda Lusardi, funny man Silly Billy and R&B girl group Cleopatra.
Gravesend Borough Market will remain open into the evening with Christmas stalls and street food to conclude a truly festive evening.
