William Winnett was a family grocer and provision merchant from the 1850s to the 1880s. William went on to be a member of the Town Council and was elected Mayor in 1864.
Howard Burton took over the business in the mid-1880s and added patent medicine to its services. By the turn of the 20th century the shop was known as Burton’s Stores.
