In the mid 19th century this was a popular butcher shop owned by Mr William Tolhurst in a prime location on Gravesend High Street.
In 1884 it became a family grocer and provision dealer of wine, spirits and a bottled beer merchant. Maypole Dairy Co Ltd was the new tenant and sold butter, eggs and tea.
